Who Is Molly Moynahan?
After completing an undergraduate degree in English & History (Rutgers University BA, Trinity College Dublin) I received a Masters In Fiction Writing (Brooklyn College) and worked as an editor in NYC for Random House and Bantam-Doubleday-Dell. I have taught writing and English for 20 years, eleven years of college level creative writing and composition in Universities such as Rutgers, SMU, DePaul and the University of Texas and nine years of high school English instruction. During my eight years as a certified English teacher at Evanston Township High School I have taught every level of student in the junior and senior grades from the lowest to Advanced Placement English Literature. My writing intensive courses have included creative writing, journalism, critical thinking and AP Literature and Composition. I have facilitated and coached thousands of students through the process of writing the College Admissions Essay.
A three time published novelist, my latest novel, Stone Garden was a New York Times Notable Book for 2003, was translated into Japanese and German and was chosen as a top Teen Read by teenagers and librarians across the country. My short stories and essays have been published in Mademoiselle, North American Review, and The Best Texas Stories, and on 848-a Chicago NPR Arts program. I am currently working with a publisher on a book for English teachers and their students that provides a clear guide for using creative writing in the classroom. I am also working as a script consultant/writer on a feature film. I am an experienced instructor of adult learners having created and facilitated courses for the Open Center in New York City, The City Lit in London, The Skokie Public Library and the Indiana Writing Project among others. I have presented at the IATE, ASCD and around the country to support my novels. I am currently teaching an adult writing course in Chicago.
